This page has been added to my website in memory of our daughter, Kristen Nicole Proffitt Barker. On July 26th 2006, Kristen died suddenly as a result of complications from her diabetes...she was only 20 years old. Kristen was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 9, requiring insulin to live. She battled with many aspects of this disease, both physically and emotionally, only to fall victim to it at such an early age. This page has been created to celebrate her life, talents and impact she had on so many people she knew, and now, many she will never know...at least in this life, though she will introduce herself to you one day far beyond this realm. Until then, get to know her a little here through some photos and her art. If you wish to know more, just send me an email and I’ll do my best to fill you in on the beauty, love and selfless giving of our daughter, Kristen.
Many of you have requested a way to continue to help our family in the wake of this tragedy. We have created this page to give you an avenue to do just that. Donations can still be made at any Wells Fargo Bank branch throughout the country, “In Memory of Kristen Barker” or profits from the items below go the Kristen Nicole Proffitt Barker Memorial Fund. Our current objective is to purchase a headstone for Kristen. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. For more information about this project, please contact Bruce Barker at bruce@bruczilla.com We deeply appreciate the incredible love and support we have received from so many friends and family throughout the country, and the continued prayers and well-wishes still sent our way. Your generosity of heart shed's hope and light in a troubling time. We will ever be grateful. – Cindy Jack & Bruce Barker…Kristen’s Parents.
I have also created an interactive website for Kristen's Family and Friends. You can visit this site by clicking on the link here or by visiting http://kristen-barker.memory-of.com/
Inspired by an encounter I had on my flight back to Denver from Kristen’s Funeral, and Kristen’s sketches and notes, I created this memory bracelet and series of t-shirts as a message of hope “Don’t Forget To Breathe” reminds us that no matter what life throws our way; no matter how complicated our lives, or even daily tasks become, we should not forget the most basic things in life we sometimes take for granted. So when something you may experience feels overwhelming, or when daily life seems to be so fast and out of control, pause for a moment... Don’t Forget To Breathe .
Celebrating the Art and Life of
We have collected 17 of Kristen’s original paintings, and made them available for viewing on this website. Kristen’s original works are either owned by the friends and family she painted them for, or by her parents. She painted what she saw in herself and others, her views about society’s condition, her personal feelings, and sometimes a memory or abstract thought. True artists are deep, passionate, imaginative and expressive. Kristen was a true artist. We will always miss her. Kristen's prints are no longer available for sale. Please enjoy her art and immense talent.
